In an industry that’s mostly dominated by male, there’s an Asian female who didn’t give up on her sky-high dream of being an aviator. Inspired by her father who is an Air Traffic Controller in South Korea, Ju Young Lee’s name has whizzed in aviation here in the Philippines as our first female Korean pilot in Cebu Pacific Airline.
Lee had her flight training in Mactan, Cebu. Her first unforgettable solo flight made her realize that she’s destined to fly. She shared that at first, language was a challenge for her since English is mainly used in aviation. Determined to follow her passion, there’s nothing that could stop her not even language obstacle.
When asked about her idea of being one of the few females in a male-dominated industry, the Cebu Pacific’s 1st Officer, assertively said that there’s no boundary or limit of being a woman. In the field that she’s into, men and women are treated equal. As long as you are a good pilot with a pleasant attitude, everybody will welcome you.
She hopes that her story of being a pilot will encourage more females to be part of aeronautics. Her message for aspiring pilots? “Never give up and just go for it. Be positive and never stop learning.”
